Learning Objectives

Students should be able to write an easy story about one topic with relevant details.

Introduction

  • Tell the students that today, they could draw and color a photo about something that means they are happy.
  • Give them time for you to brainstorm some topics.
  • Provide them with several ideas such as animals, toys, games, favorite food if they are stuck and can’t think of anything.

Explicit Instruction/Teacher modeling

  • Choose a subject of great interest for your requirements.
  • Draw a picture to go right along with it. Show the learning students the way the drawing need not be perfect.
  • Demonstrate for the learning students how you will choose words that describe your picture.
  • Make a listing and write those expressed words from the board.
  • Use 2-3 of these expressed words in a sentence.
  • Show the learning students the way the sentences connect with the picture.

  • Instruct the students to think of several words that tell about the picture they drew.
  • Ask them to write the expressed words on lined paper.

Independent working time

  • Tell the learning students to think about sentences that tell about their pictures before they start writing.
  • Have students turn and communicate with an elbow partner to spell it writing websites out the thing that is very important for them orally using details that are relevant
  • Have them write 1-2 sentences about the image.

Differentiation

  • Enrichment: Encourage advanced students to publish a paragraph about their picture. They could wish to add additional pictures and writing, encourage them to take action.
  • Support: Struggling students may focus on correct spelling. Since this is beginning writing, encourage them to sound out words or write them phonetically. You can easily assist them.

Assessment

  • Collect the papers.
  • Read the sentences. Check to be sure they match the image and stayed on topic.
  • If students stayed on topic, they can write more independently.
  • Meet individually with students who might need help that is extra.

Review and closing

  • Allow students to share a partner to their writing before choosing a couple of volunteers to fairly share their writing using the whole class.
