An old track arbitrarily arrived through to my iPhone last week that brought my awareness of an incredibly typical blunder, one I have actually heard duplicated also by people who should be aware better: the concept of a “dowry” as a cost compensated by the bridegroom (groom/husband become) so that you can get their spouse. This mistake may lead alternatively to a misunderstanding of older cultures as overly misogynistic (“buying” ladies like chattel) or even intimate notions of an adult time whenever all husbands-to-be would purchase their brides at great cost, using the moms and dads overseeing the deal.
